Heavy Rain and Flash Flooding Risk for NYC Region on Monday
The National Weather Service (NWS) has forecasted heavy rain and thunderstorms across the New York City region on Monday, with localized flash flooding possible. Rainfall totals are expected to range from 0.5 to 2 inches, though some areas may experience significantly higher amounts. The Weather Prediction Center has placed the region under a slight risk for excessive rainfall, indicating the potential for scattered flash flooding. Flood Watches are in effect through Monday evening for much of northeastern and central New Jersey, where excessive rainfall could lead to flooding. The heaviest rain may produce rates exceeding 1 inch per hour, with low-lying areas, poorly drained locations, and small streams at particular risk. Damaging wind gusts are also possible in some storms. This forecast follows last week's severe weather, which caused significant flooding in parts of Staten Island, northern New Jersey, and the lower Hudson Valley.
