New York Woman Charged with ISIS-Linked Capitol Bomb Plot After Online Radicalization
Jessica Bowie, a 35-year-old woman from upstate New York, has been arrested and is facing terrorism charges for allegedly plotting to bomb the New York State Capitol building. Authorities claim Bowie, who converted to Islam five years ago and adopted the name Aisha Saif, swore allegiance to the Islamic State group. The FBI arrested Bowie after she allegedly enlisted confidential informants, believing them to be ISIS handlers, to assist in her plot. She reportedly purchased bomb-making materials, including a large bucket of nails intended for shrapnel, and sought a handgun. Court documents indicate Bowie praised the 9/11 attacks and expressed a desire to destroy the Capitol building, kill senators, and escape to Syria for future attacks. Her radicalization is believed to have occurred online, with her social media accounts repeatedly banned for violating terms of service due to posts about poisoning 'infidels' and praising 9/11.
