Albany Woman Charged with Planning ISIS-Inspired Terror Bomb Attack on New York State Capitol
Jessica Bowie, a 35-year-old woman from Albany, New York, has been charged with planning an Islamic State-inspired terror bomb attack on the New York State Capitol. According to federal criminal complaints, Bowie informed confidential federal informants of her desire to acquire bombs and weapons to carry out an attack aimed at killing as many lawmakers as possible in support of ISIS. Text messages included in the complaint show Bowie stating, “I want to destroy as much of the building as possible and kill the senators while they are meeting.” She also expressed a desire to “harm the enemies of God” before planning to flee to the Middle East. Between July 21 and August 9, Bowie visited the State Capitol at least five times, where surveillance teams observed her photographing the area. Bowie, who lives two miles from the Capitol, was arrested after purchasing suspected weapons for the attack.
