Stockton Unveils New Permanent Supportive Housing Units to Combat Homelessness and Behavioral Health Needs
The Housing Authority of the County of San Joaquin in Stockton, California, celebrated the opening of the Grant Street Apartments, which will provide 24 new permanent supportive housing units. This initiative is part of a larger effort to address the behavioral health needs and homelessness in San Joaquin County. The Grant Street Apartments will be connected to the newly renovated Satellite Apartments, which serve as transitional housing. The projects are a collaborative effort supported by the San Joaquin County Housing Authority, the city of Stockton, and San Joaquin Behavioral Health. Genevieve Valentine, director of San Joaquin County Health Care Services Agency, emphasized that housing stability is crucial for individuals with behavioral health challenges, especially those who have interacted with the justice system, as it provides a foundation for recovery and independence. Adam Cheshire, district director for Rep. Josh Harder, was among the attendees at the opening.
