Sacramento Suburb Experiences Widespread Flat Tires Due to Screws on Highway Overpass
Dozens of drivers in Elk Grove, a Sacramento suburb, have reported damaged and flat tires after hundreds of screws were found scattered across a highway overpass. The city received numerous reports on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning regarding the issue. One driver, Justice Rose, stated she had 27 screws in her tires and needed two replacements. Local tire shops, such as Les Schwab, saw a significant surge in business, with one manager reporting approximately 60 flat-tire repairs in a single day, compared to their usual 20 to 30. While the city's Public Works department inspected the Highway 99 overpass, they initially found no evidence, though local news outlet KCRA reported finding screws in the area. A local resident, David Irons, took it upon himself to clear many of the screws using a magnet, collecting hundreds from the roadway. The origin of the screws on the road remains unknown.
