Sixth Person Arrested in Nebraska Petition Signature Fraud Investigation
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office (LSO) has made a sixth arrest in an ongoing investigation into fraudulent signatures on Nebraska petitions. The latest suspect identified by LSO Chief Deputy Ben Houchin is Michael Smith, 28, who was arrested in St. Louis, Missouri, for his alleged involvement in the petition fraud. This arrest follows the apprehension of five other out-of-state individuals in early August, who have since waived extradition and are being transported back to Lincoln. The investigation initially uncovered thousands of fraudulent signatures on a trio of petitions aimed at qualifying for the November ballot. Four additional petitions are currently under scrutiny, including the Fairness for Girls petition, Brent Lindstrom for Governor petition, an online sports betting petition, and the four-fifths vote petition.
