Motorcycle Rider Urges End to Lane Splitting Amid Revive I-5 Project
A motorcycle rider with over 30 years of experience has voiced concerns over the increasing practice of lane splitting during the ongoing Revive I-5 construction project in the Pacific Northwest. Lane splitting, which involves motorcycles moving between lanes of slow or stopped traffic, is illegal in Washington State. The rider highlights the dangers posed by this practice, especially as local drivers are not accustomed to it, unlike in states like California where it is more common. The Revive I-5 project, which has been underway for over six months and is expected to continue through 2027, has led to increased traffic congestion, prompting some motorcyclists to engage in lane splitting. The rider warns that this could lead to severe accidents, potentially resulting in fatalities.
