Food Truck Builder Convicted in $1 Million Fraud Targeting Immigrants in California
Fernando Jauregui Ochoa, owner of 8A Food Trucks, has been convicted of 18 counts of obtaining money by fraud, witness intimidation, and targeting vulnerable victims based on their immigration status. Prosecutors in Stanislaus County, California, announced the conviction, stating that Ochoa defrauded over 40 victims of nearly $1 million. Ochoa had presented himself as a successful food truck builder on social media, attracting aspiring food truck owners, many of whom were immigrants who invested their life savings. Instead of delivering the promised food trucks and trailers, Ochoa used the money for personal luxuries, including drugs and vacations. The investigation began in April 2023 after numerous complaints were filed against his company. The total fraud exceeded $500,000, and Ochoa is scheduled for sentencing in October, where he faces a 20-year prison sentence and restitution payments.
