Northern California Braces for Dramatic Weekend Cool-Down
A sharp low-pressure system is moving into Northern California, bringing a significant drop in temperatures and increased cloud cover. Daytime highs are expected to fall by 15 to 20 degrees, with weekend temperatures bottoming out in the 60s °F (15-20 °C) in some areas. Overnight lows will become notably chilly, dipping into the 30s and 40s °F (1-9 °C). Coastal areas, including Del Norte, Humboldt, and Mendocino counties, will remain insulated from the heat wave due to persistent marine influences, with foggy mornings and mild afternoons. Meanwhile, remnants of Hurricane Marie are introducing tropical moisture, though most of it is evaporating before reaching the ground. The heat wave affecting the valley and foothills is expected to break by Friday, with a more pronounced cool-down arriving Saturday.
