UK Health Worker Monitored for Ebola After Evacuation from Democratic Republic of the Congo
A UK resident and humanitarian worker is under observation at a London hospital after potential exposure to the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The individual was evacuated as a precautionary measure and is currently symptom-free. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is monitoring the worker in isolation, following the standard incubation period of two to 21 days. The evacuation follows an outbreak in the DRC, declared a public health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO). The virus spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids, and the risk to the UK public remains low.
