Senator Darline Graham Acknowledges Limited National Security Expertise During South Carolina Debate
During a recent debate in South Carolina, U.S. Senator Darline Graham, a Republican, admitted to having limited expertise in national security. The admission occurred when she was asked about the significance of Taiwan and the South China Sea as national security issues for the United States. Senator Graham stated, "I’m just going to be honest here. I’m not that informed on national security, but I do support the military." She further elaborated by mentioning her late brother, Lindsey Graham, who was known for his involvement in foreign policy, and her father, who served in the Army, as reasons for her support of the military. Senator Graham was appointed to temporarily fill her brother's seat after his unexpected death on July 11 and is now running in a special election for her own term against U.S. Representative Ralph Norman. She has received an endorsement from President Trump, and both she and Norman advanced to the runoff after last week's primary.
