Las Vegas Public Works Deputy Director Resigns Amid Fatal Workplace Shooting Investigation
Matthew Meyer, the deputy director of public works for the City of Las Vegas, has resigned from his position, effective September 8. This resignation comes amidst an ongoing investigation into a fatal workplace shooting that occurred at a City public works facility on June 12. City records indicate that Meyer was among the officials who received complaints from both Joey McLean, the victim, and Brysen Kim, the alleged shooter, regarding their conflicts prior to the incident. Of the 1,562 pages of documents obtained by Channel 13, Meyer's name appeared in 888 of them, highlighting his involvement in the pre-shooting complaints. The news of Meyer's departure follows the public announcement by McLean's widow of her intent to sue the City of Las Vegas over her husband's death. Acting public works director Michael Cunningham informed employees of Meyer's resignation, stating he was 'heading into a new chapter in his career' after 13 years with the City, without explicitly mentioning the ongoing investigation.
