Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has announced a $68 million agreement to sell the Atlanta City Detention Center (ACDC) to Fulton County. This deal follows weeks of intense negotiations, aiming to alleviate severe overcrowding and understaffing issues at Fulton County’s main jail on Rice Street. Fulton County had been leasing space at the ACDC, and that agreement was set to expire by the end of the year, adding urgency to the sale. Initially, Mayor Dickens had made the sale contingent on Fulton County's participation in extending the city's tax allocation districts (TADs) and a $200 million contribution towards a new hospital in southwest Atlanta.
