Man Charged in 'Texas Killing Fields' Case to Face Trial Decades After Daughter's Death
Jury selection is set to begin for James Dolphs Elmore Jr., who is charged with manslaughter and felony evidence tampering in connection with the deaths of Laura Lynn Miller and Audrey Lee Cook. Their bodies were found in the 'Texas Killing Fields' in League City, Texas, between 1984 and 1991. Elmore is accused of helping dispose of their bodies and contributing to Miller's death. Laura Miller, 16, vanished in September 1984, and her remains were discovered in February 1986 alongside Audrey Lee Cook, who was identified 33 years later. The area is notorious for being the site where approximately 30 slain women and girls have been found since the 1970s. Elmore reportedly contacted Laura Miller's father, Tim Miller, in 2022 and provided details about the night Laura was killed, including that he prepared a lethal dose of cocaine administered by Clyde Hedrick, who authorities now believe killed all four victims found in the field. Hedrick died by suicide in March, shortly before grand jury presentation.
