House Judiciary Committee Chair Urges DOJ to Consider Charges Against Jack Smith
Republican Representative Jim Jordan, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, has formally requested the Department of Justice (DOJ) to consider criminal charges against former special counsel Jack Smith. This request is based on allegations that Smith misled the committee during a closed-door testimony. The controversy centers around Smith's team obtaining text messages between Trump administration officials and members of Congress during their investigation into President Trump's response to his 2020 election loss. The DOJ, now led by Trump's former defense attorney Todd Blanche, has acknowledged receipt of Jordan's referral and stated it will investigate any evidence of criminal conduct. Smith's legal team has defended his actions, asserting that his testimony was truthful and that the accusations are unfounded.
