William Patrick Hughes, Hampton Bays Civic Leader and Wall Street Veteran, Remembered at 83
William (Bill) Patrick Hughes of Hampton Bays passed away on August 15 at the age of 83. Born in Brooklyn, Hughes had a distinguished career on Wall Street, serving as Assistant Treasurer and Vice President in charge of Government Securities Operations at Aubrey G. Lanston & Co. for 30 years. After retiring to the Hamptons in the late 1990s, he was called back to assist in reconstructing the government securities market following the events of September 11, 2001, spending nine months reconciling and restoring records for the Government Securities Clearing Corporation. Hughes was also deeply involved in civic life in Hampton Bays for 50 years, holding leadership roles in organizations such as the Southampton Elks Lodge #1574, Knights of Columbus Council 7023, and the Michael Collins Division 11 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, where he was named Irishman of the Year in 2006 and served as Grand Marshal of the 2016 St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
