Student Brings Handgun to Brooklyn High School, Police Investigation Underway
Police are actively searching for a 17-year-old male student who allegedly brought a handgun into The Frank J. Macchiarola Educational Complex in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, on Friday. The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. when the student's bag triggered a metal detector as he was entering the school for sports practice. School safety staff discovered a black handgun inside his bag. The student fled the premises before police officers arrived. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The NYPD has stated that their investigation is ongoing and they are seeking information from the public to assist in locating and arresting the individual. This event follows a period where NYPD data indicates that school safety personnel recovered 57 weapons from New York City schools between January and June, including various knives, box cutters, and mace.
