Longevity Supplements May Accelerate Cancer Growth, New Research Suggests
New research indicates that popular longevity supplements, specifically those designed to increase NAD+ levels, may inadvertently accelerate cancer growth and resistance to treatment. These supplements, including nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), nicotinamide riboside (NR), and niacinamide/nicotinamide (NAM), are forms of vitamin B3 that convert to NAD+ in cells. NAD+ is crucial for energy production, DNA repair, and cell protection, and its levels naturally decline with age. While these supplements are marketed for their anti-aging properties and are used by individuals like Kim Kardashian and Bryan Johnson, studies from Case Western suggest a concerning interaction with cancer cells. Researchers found that when pancreatic cancer cells were exposed to NAD+ supplements alongside chemotherapy drugs, the tumors became stronger and more resilient. The supplements appeared to rejuvenate cancer cells by providing more energy, lowering oxidative stress, and suppressing DNA damage and cell death, effectively blo...
