Riverside Church Abuse Cases Face Delays in Court Proceedings
The litigation process for the Riverside Church child molestation scandal is experiencing significant delays, frustrating plaintiffs involved in the cases. Over six months have passed since the first trial resulted in a settlement for former college basketball star Daryl Powell. Despite initial hopes for a swift resolution of the remaining 25 lawsuits, progress has been slow. The lawsuits, filed under New York's Child Victims Act, allege that the church should have known about the abuse by Ernest Lorch, the former director of the church's youth sports programs. Lorch, who passed away in 2012, is accused of abusing children over nearly 40 years.
