Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Robert L. Goring Passes Away, Leaving a Legacy in Advanced Veterinary Care
Dr. Robert L. Goring, a renowned veterinary surgeon, passed away unexpectedly on July 25, 2026, at the age of 78. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Goring earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University in 1977 and became a board-certified veterinary surgeon after completing his residency at the University of Florida in 1983. He was a respected faculty member at the University of Florida's Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences from 1983 to 1991, where he trained many surgical residents and interns. Dr. Goring was instrumental in establishing the first private-practice veterinary surgical internship program in Florida, significantly advancing access to specialized veterinary care. He was also known for his passion for wildlife preservation and his active lifestyle, participating in marathons and triathlons. Dr. Goring is survived by his wife, Judy, their daughter, and grandchildren.
