Three Children Die in Mandarin Residential Fire, Multiple Injuries Reported in Jacksonville
Three children have died following a residential fire at a townhome in the 4400 block of Windergate Drive in Mandarin, Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department (JFRD) responded to the scene at approximately 5:13 a.m. on Wednesday. JFRD Chief Percy Golden II reported that crews arrived within four minutes to find heavy flames and smoke. Two adults and two other children managed to escape the two-story home before firefighters arrived and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital for critical injuries. The three deceased children were found inside the residence. The fire also impacted two neighboring homes, displacing seven adults and six children, who are now being assisted by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal.
