Northrop Grumman SYNOPTICS is commemorating its 25th anniversary as a brand within Northrop Grumman, highlighting its significant contributions to laser-enabled defense systems. The company specializes in high-precision laser crystals and optical components crucial for solid-state laser systems. Its technology is integrated into mission-critical programs such as the LITENING targeting pod, the Airborne Laser Mine Detection System (ALMDS), and the Joint High Power Solid State Laser (JHPSSL) project. SYNOPTICS' defense applications span target designators, range finders, remote sensing, directed-energy weapons, and secure communications. The company's involvement in the JHPSSL project notably led to breaking power and run-time records, exceeding 100 kilowatts. With over six decades of experience in producing precision laser crystals and optical components, SYNOPTICS operates a 70,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Charlotte, North Carolina, equipped with dedicated clean rooms for component production.
