St. Joseph County Council Candidate Proposes Data Center Moratorium Amid Concerns
Jamie O’Brien, a candidate for the St. Joseph County Council, has called for a moratorium on data center developments in the county. This proposal arises from concerns about the environmental and community impact of projects by Microsoft in Granger and Amazon Web Services in New Carlisle. The Granger facility is set to begin construction in late 2026 or early 2027, while the New Carlisle center has been under construction for two years. O’Brien cites issues such as utility and water usage, noise, and neighborhood disruption as reasons for the moratorium. He plans to present a formal proposal in the coming weeks.
