Governor Hochul Faces Conservative Criticism for Wearing Headscarf at Islamic Cultural Center
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has drawn criticism from conservative media personalities and politicians for wearing a headscarf at the Islamic Cultural Center of New York. Critics, including right-wing influencers and members of Congress, accused the governor of subjugating herself and 'bowing to the third world.' Some also framed her action as hypocritical, particularly given her self-identification as a feminist. This is not the first time Governor Hochul has faced such criticism; she was similarly targeted last year for wearing a headscarf at the funeral of a Muslim police officer, to which she responded that she was showing respect for a grieving family's faith. Snopes clarified that while she wore a headscarf, it was not a traditional hijab, which typically covers all hair and the neck, and that her hair was visible.
