Türkiye Joins ASEAN as 12th Dialogue Partner, Expanding Regional Influence
Türkiye has been officially admitted as the 12th Dialogue Partner of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) during the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila. This development marks a significant step in Türkiye's engagement with Southeast Asia, following its accession to ASEAN’s Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in 2010 and its status as a Sectoral Dialogue Partner in 2017. The decision to grant Türkiye full Dialogue Partnership status was made after a thorough review of ASEAN's moratorium on new Dialogue Partners, highlighting Türkiye's strategic relevance in the region. Türkiye's economic ambitions in Southeast Asia are underscored by its bilateral trade targets with countries like Indonesia and Malaysia, although current trade volumes fall short of these goals.
