Floodwaters Delay Corpus Christi Water Emergency to 2028
Recent floodwaters have provided a temporary reprieve for Corpus Christi, Texas, delaying the city's projected Level 1 water emergency to September 2028. Heavy rains have replenished reservoirs, including Choke Canyon, which rose from 7.9% to 24% capacity in just a week. The city, which serves 500,000 residents and a major petrochemical corridor, had been under severe drought conditions, with earlier projections suggesting a water crisis as soon as May 2027. Officials are now using this additional time to advance $1 billion in water supply projects, including groundwater wells and a potential seawater desalination plant.
