Heat Index Alert Issued for Corpus Christi Region

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Corpus Christi has issued a heat index alert for the region, warning of extreme heat conditions. The heat index, which combines air temperature and relative humidity to determine how hot it feels, is expected to exceed 105°F to 110°F (40.6°C to 43.3°C) for at least two consecutive days. For example, an air temperature of 96°F (35.6°C) with 65% relative humidity can result in a heat index of 121°F (49.4°C). The NWS notes that exposure to full sunshine can increase the heat index by up to 15°F (8.3°C). Additionally, the HeatRisk index, an experimental tool, is being used to provide guidance on heat-related risks for sensitive populations and decision-makers. (Source time: not specified)
