Bridgeport Councilwoman Martinez Rallies Bus Drivers to Amend Traffic Ordinance Exempting School Buses
Bridgeport City Councilwoman Eneida Martinez, co-chair of the Ordinance Committee, is organizing a special meeting to amend a new traffic ordinance. The proposed amendment aims to exempt school buses from regulations that prohibit heavy commercial vehicles from street parking. This initiative comes after bus drivers expressed concerns about the new rules. City lawyers are currently drafting the amended ordinance to create a specific carve-out for school buses. Councilwoman Martinez is actively rallying bus drivers to attend the upcoming council meeting's speaking portion to voice their support for the amendment. However, City Councilwoman Maria Pereira has publicly stated her intention to consult a lawyer and challenge any attempt by the City Council and Police Commission to create such an exemption for school buses serving the Bridgeport Public Schools (BPS).
