Governor Abbott Activates Emergency Response for Severe Weather in Texas
Governor Greg Abbott held a severe weather briefing at the Texas State Emergency Operations Center (SOC) to address the state's preparations for heavy rainfall and flooding expected to impact large parts of Texas in the coming days. The SOC will operate 24/7 starting Tuesday, September 28, 2026, at 7:00 AM. Governor Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate additional emergency response resources. Tropical moisture from Hurricane Polo, combined with a low-pressure system, is forecasted to bring widespread heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, with risks of flash flooding. East Texas faces wildfire dangers, while South Texas is expected to experience extreme heat conditions.
