Tropical Low in Gulf of Mexico Approaches Texas Coast
A tropical low-pressure system, designated as Invest 97L, has formed in the northern Gulf of Mexico, approximately 100 miles south of the Mississippi River's mouth. Over the past day, the system has shown signs of gradual development, with thunderstorms becoming more organized. However, surface pressures have not significantly dropped, indicating limited intensification so far. The system is expected to move west or west-northwest due to high pressure over the southern United States, potentially making landfall along the upper Texas coast between Galveston Bay and the Texas-Louisiana border by Tuesday or Wednesday. While it is currently classified as a tropical low, there is a possibility it could strengthen into a tropical storm due to warm sea surface temperatures and low wind shear.
