Xcel Energy Advances Wildfire Mitigation and Renewable Projects
Xcel Energy has announced updates to its wildfire mitigation plan and new energy projects aimed at enhancing service reliability and safety. The Southwestern Public Service Company, a subsidiary of Xcel Energy, filed a Wildfire Mitigation Plan with the Public Utility Commission of Texas. The plan includes situational awareness tools, AI-enabled wildfire detection cameras, and drone-based inspections to improve equipment visibility and system performance. Additionally, Xcel Energy has proposed a portfolio of new power generation projects, including solar, wind, and natural gas, expected to deliver 3,928 megawatts by 2030. The company is also working on tariffs to ensure that new large-energy users, such as data centers, cover their own costs.
