NRCC Reports Over $16,000 Stolen by Unknown Actor in Latest Political Committee Theft
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has reported that over $16,300 was stolen by an unknown actor, according to federal records reviewed by NOTUS. Initially described as a 'foreign country' actor, the NRCC later clarified to NOTUS that there is no evidence of the thief's location. The fraud occurred on July 7 when the NRCC attempted to pay a bill to Ranger Wi-Fi Consulting, a Texas-based firm specializing in wireless network optimization and security. NRCC spokesman Will Kiley confirmed that a vendor's systems were compromised, leading to an unauthorized interception of a payment. The NRCC stated it caught the incident immediately, is working to recover the funds, and has implemented measures to prevent future occurrences. This incident is part of a broader trend of thefts affecting numerous prominent federal political committees, including the Democratic National Committee and committees associated with various senators and representatives from both parties.
