Congressman Landsman Introduces Legislation to Triple Head Start Funding
Congressman Greg Landsman (OH-01), alongside Congresswoman Jahanna Hayes (D-CT-05) and Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA-18), has introduced the Head Start Expansion and Improvement Act. This comprehensive legislation aims to significantly increase investment in the Head Start program, a federally funded initiative providing free early childhood education and family support. The proposed bill seeks to triple annual funding for Head Start and Early Head Start to $36 billion for Fiscal Years 2027-2032. The legislation addresses the current challenges faced by the program, which is described as under-resourced, outdated, and understaffed. Key provisions of the Act include expanding eligibility to families at or below 138 percent of the Federal Poverty Level, as well as those eligible for TANF, SSI, SNAP, WIC, or CHIP.
