Hamilton County Transfers McDonald Farm Acreage to State for New Park Development
Hamilton County has completed the transfer of 1,277.14 acres of McDonald Farm to the state of Tennessee for the development of a new state park. The transferred property is valued at $8.5 million, though the land was donated by the county. In return, the state has committed $45.3 million towards the creation of what will become its 70th state park. Hamilton County will retain over 300 acres of the original McDonald Farm, specifically the area centered around the historic McDonald farmstead and the site of the annual County Fair. The section of the property transferred to the state for the new park is intended to provide a connection to the nearby Cumberland Trail, enhancing recreational opportunities and preserving natural landscapes.
