Knox County School to Conduct Review After 21 Students Hospitalized During Bomb Threat Evacuation
Carter County Middle School in Knox County, Tennessee, will undergo an 'after-action review' following an incident where 21 students were hospitalized due to heat-related illnesses during a bomb threat evacuation. The evacuation, prompted by a written bomb threat, required students to remain outdoors. While school officials, including Superintendent Jon Rysewyk, initially stated that students were provided water and shade and were outside for approximately an hour, parents have disputed this timeline. One parent, Kari Shortt, claimed students were outside for two hours, and another, Katie Schaefer, a nurse with children at the school, reported a lack of medical personnel on site during the emergency. Three students were reportedly in critical condition. The review aims to investigate the school's response protocols and identify areas for improvement.
