Tennessee Governor Predicts State as Finalist for $50 Billion Nuclear Energy Campus
Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee has expressed optimism about the state's chances of being selected as one of two finalists for a $50 billion nuclear energy campus. Speaking at the Nashville Rotary Club, Lee highlighted Tennessee's historical involvement in nuclear energy, dating back to the Manhattan Project during World War II. The proposed campus would involve fuel production, uranium enrichment, reactor construction, and nuclear waste storage, potentially creating 25,000 jobs. However, Lee noted that the distribution of these activities among the competing states remains unclear. The U.S. Department of Energy has identified Tennessee as one of five states under consideration for this federal partnership aimed at boosting nuclear energy production.
