Knox County Regional Forensic Center Dedicated to Dr. Darinka Mileusnic; U.S. House Rep. Tim Burchett's Past Funding Role Noted
The new Knox County Regional Forensic Center has been officially dedicated and named after Dr. Darinka Mileusnic, the county's long-time chief medical examiner. This new facility, significantly larger than its predecessor, aims to enhance forensic services in the region. The previous forensic operation, which moved from the University of Tennessee Medical Center in 2014, received funding under then-Knox County Mayor and current U.S. House Representative Tim Burchett. The new 33,000-square-foot center, located in the Karns Valley Business Park, is the largest of its kind in Tennessee and is expected to be fully operational by October. The project, costing $30 million, was largely funded by a $20 million allocation from the American Rescue Plan Act, with Knox County contributing the remaining $10 million. Dr. Mileusnic, an internationally recognized medical professional, expressed that the facility is dedicated to families seeking answers and guidance during difficult times.
