Lupita Nyong'o Advocates for Increased Fibroid Research Funding Amid Personal Health Journey
Lupita Nyong'o, the acclaimed actress, has revealed her personal battle with fibroids, a condition she discovered in 2014. Despite her professional success, Nyong'o faced significant health challenges, undergoing surgery to remove over 30 fibroids. Her experience highlights a broader issue of women's health, particularly the lack of awareness and research funding for fibroids, which affect a significant portion of women, especially Black women. Nyong'o, alongside Maryland Senator Angela Alsobrooks, is advocating for increased federal funding and awareness. They are pushing for the Uterine Fibroid Intervention and Gynecological Health Treatment Act (U-FIGHT), which aims to improve research funding, awareness, and early detection screenings.
