The Masonic Temple in Knoxville, a historic building dating back to the 1910s, is facing potential demolition due to significant decay and safety concerns. The Masonic Temple Association has applied for a demolition permit, citing the building's unsafe condition. Knox Heritage, a preservation group, is attempting to engage with the owners to explore alternatives to demolition, such as documentation or relocation of historic materials. The building, originally a mansion built in the 1870s, has served as a Freemason meeting site since its conversion in 1916. A 60-day delay in the demolition permit process allows time for potential preservation efforts.
