Packard Foundation Launches Democracy Initiative Amid Federal Government Changes
The David and Lucile Packard Foundation has launched the Democracy, Rights and Governance initiative, aimed at advancing a resilient democracy in the U.S. The initiative includes three portfolios: Civic Culture, Effective Governance, and Resilient Futures. It supports projects like the Future of Federal Government, which seeks to reimagine American self-government. The foundation has also funded 12 democracy-related grants totaling $12.7 million in 2025, focusing on civic leader safety, litigation efforts, and the role of AI in democracy.
