Russian Forces Launch Massive Attack on Ukraine's Energy Sites, Causing Widespread Blackouts
Russian forces have launched a significant attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, leading to widespread power outages across the country. The Ukrainian state grid operator reported that the attacks targeted the Burshtynska and Dobrotvirska power plants in western Ukraine. In response, Ukraine's Energy Minister Denys Shmygal announced that emergency assistance has been requested from Poland. The attacks have resulted in emergency power outages in most Ukrainian regions. Additionally, two airports in Poland, Rzeszow and Lublin, have temporarily suspended operations as a precaution due to their proximity to the Ukrainian border. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for expedited efforts to enhance air defenses and repair damaged electricity grids and heating systems. He also mentioned potential personnel changes in areas where air defenses were deemed inadequate.
