This trade route has become crucial for both nations, allowing them to bypass traditional routes like the Strait of Hormuz, which is currently blockaded. The Caspian Sea's strategic importance was highlighted in 2022 when Russian military operations utilized it to launch attacks into Ukraine. The trade between Russia and Iran is not limited to military components; it also includes essential goods like wheat and corn. However, the military aspect of this trade is less transparent, with ships often turning off their tracking systems to avoid detection.
