Utah to Ban VPN Use for Circumventing Age Verification, Raising Privacy Concerns
Utah is set to implement a new law prohibiting the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to bypass age-verification systems on websites. Senate Bill 73, effective Wednesday, will hold websites accountable for users masking their location within Utah, treating VPN users as if they are physically present in the state for age-verification purposes. This legislation is the first of its kind in the U.S. and follows similar proposals in Wisconsin and Michigan. Privacy advocates warn that this could lead to websites banning all VPN addresses due to the difficulty in accurately determining user locations.
