Eiffel Tower Staff Protest Alleged Request to Limit Female Interaction During Hindu Group Visit
Employees at the Eiffel Tower in Paris launched a protest, leading to the monument's closure, after allegations surfaced that a Hindu religious delegation requested 'limited interactions' with female staff during a private visit. The incident occurred on a Saturday when a 100-person delegation from the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) visited the tower. Staff, supported by the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) trade union, claimed that female employees were asked to leave their posts, withdraw to other areas, or were replaced by men during the delegation's presence. The company operating the monument, Sete, acknowledged that the delegation had requested limited interactions with women and admitted that these conditions should not have been accepted as they contradict Sete’s values and the principle of equality.
