I-65 Shutdown in Louisville Causes Traffic Chaos and Trucking Mishaps
The closure of Interstate 65 (I-65) in Louisville, Kentucky, has led to significant traffic disruptions and challenges for drivers, particularly those operating semi-trucks. The shutdown, which began on June 1 and is expected to last until at least July 31, affects the stretch between the Watterson Expressway and Spaghetti Junction, one of the state's most traveled roads. A detour has been established via the Watterson Expressway, but some drivers have opted for alternative routes. This has led to incidents involving the 'Louisville Can Opener,' a bridge with low clearance near the University of Louisville campus. Despite warnings from local authorities, including LMPD Deputy Chief Emily McKinley, several semi-trucks have become stuck or damaged while attempting to pass under the bridge.
