Extreme Heat Warnings Issued for Arizona and Southern California
Extreme heat warnings are currently in effect across south-central, southwestern, and western Arizona, as well as much of southern California. In the Phoenix metro area, the warning began on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and will remain in place until Thursday, September 10, 2026. High-pressure systems moving westward from the southern Plains are expected to bring temperatures ranging from 105°F to 109°F (40.6°C to 42.8°C) in Phoenix, with some areas in southwestern Arizona and southern California potentially reaching 110°F (43.3°C). Overnight lows are forecasted to remain in the 80s (26.7°C to 31.7°C) due to cloud cover. The combination of high temperatures and elevated humidity levels, with dew points in the mid-70s, will make conditions feel even hotter, with heat indices surpassing those of Miami during the afternoons.
