Coachella Valley Officials Intensify Mosquito Surveillance Following West Nile Virus Detection
The Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District has announced the detection of West Nile virus in a mosquito sample collected in the North Shore community, marking the area's first detection of the season. The positive sample was found during routine surveillance at the intersection of Avenue 72 and Cleveland Street. In response, district crews are increasing mosquito surveillance and control efforts in the affected area to mitigate the risk of virus transmission. Health officials are urging residents to take preventive measures against mosquito breeding and bites, such as draining standing water, maintaining swimming pools, and using EPA-registered insect repellents. Community involvement is emphasized as a crucial tool in preventing mosquito breeding and protecting public health.
