Five Eyes Intelligence Alliance Warns of Chinese Espionage via Job Platforms
The United States, along with its partners in the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, has issued a rare joint warning about China's use of LinkedIn and other job platforms to extract sensitive information from security professionals globally. This alert highlights concerns over China's deployment of artificial intelligence and other technologies to create fake profiles and job offers targeting military officers, spies, and individuals with access to classified information. The Five Eyes group, which includes the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, has previously issued joint statements on Chinese cyber threats but this marks the first public warning regarding the use of professional networking sites for espionage. The alert, drafted by the FBI and MI5 among others, warns that Chinese operatives pose as employees of consultancies or think tanks to lure individuals into sharing nonpublic information, often with financial incentives.
