U.S. Rep. Maxine Dexter to Visit Detained Oregon Family in Texas Amid Health Concerns
U.S. Representative Maxine Dexter, who represents Oregon's 3rd Congressional District, is set to travel to Texas to visit a family detained by federal immigration agents. The family, originally from Venezuela, was detained in Portland while seeking medical care for their 7-year-old daughter. The incident occurred on January 16 when Yohendry de Jesús Crespo Álvarez and his wife, Darianny Liseth González de Crespo, were apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Adventist Health Center. The family is currently held at the South Texas Family Residential Center, a primary detention facility for immigrant families. Dexter, a family physician, has expressed concern over the conditions at the facility, especially following a quarantine due to confirmed measles cases. She plans to assess the family's well-being and ensure their access to due process during her visit.
