Man Wanted for £17 Million Fraud Arrested at Dublin Airport
Edwin Omokhuale, a 39-year-old man wanted by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) in connection with an alleged £17 million fraud, has been arrested at Dublin Airport. Omokhuale was detained by officers from An Garda Síochána on an arrest warrant issued by the UK, shortly before he was scheduled to board a flight to Paris. The NCA stated that Omokhuale faces charges of money laundering related to a fraud committed against an Australian mining company, amounting to approximately US$23 million (around £17 million) in early 2023. Investigators believe the alleged fraudsters were based in the UK and are suspected of deceiving company employees into transferring money to accounts they controlled. Omokhuale was reportedly living in the UK when the alleged fraud occurred. He has since appeared in court in Dublin, where extradition proceedings to return him to Britain have commenced.
